MASC Lending Programs
Lending: MASC's lending programs offer reasonable access to credit to the agricultural producers and rural businesses of Manitoba. MASC provides direct loans, and guarantees private sector loans to assist in the creation and expansion of operations in rural Manitoba.
- Direct Loans are available for the purchase of agricultural land and buildings, purchase of breeding stock, permanent improvements, agricultural equipment, nurseries, greenshouses and more.
- The Bridging Generations Initiative assists in the acquisition of farm assets by young farmers (under the age of 40) and assists in the inter-generational transfer of assets, and consists of several elements:
- The Young Farmer Rebate (YFR) reduces the cost of borrowing in the critical start-up phase of an operation by offering an annual rebate.
- Flexible Financing options allow the flexibility of reducing the initial down payment (90% financing) or easing cash flow pressures during start-up with interest-only payments.
- The Bridging Generations Initiative assists in the acquisition of farm assets by young farmers (under the age of 40) and assists in the inter-generational transfer of assets, and consists of several elements:
- Stocker Loans are available for the purchase of feeder cattle and lambs or retaining owned calves and lambs for feeding.
- Comprehensive Refinancing Loans can be used to assist existing MASC clients who are in financial difficulty.
- Environmental Enhancement Loans provide financial assistance to farmers for the purpose of enhancing the environmental sustainability of their operations and management practices.
- Alternate Energy Loans assist farmers in seizing new market opportunities for alternate energy projects, including but not limited to smaller ethanol, bio-diesel, and wind energy.
- Onsite Wastewater Management Systems Loans assist rural Manitobans with the costs of transitioning to environmentally friendly sewage disposal fields.
- Manure Management Loans may be used for engineering and construction costs associated with manure storage, as well as construction of new treatment projects, as approved under the MMFAP program.
Interest Rates: MASC's interest rates for lending programs are attractive to agricultural producers and entrepreneurs in rural Manitoba. Rates are updated monthly and can be viewed below or on a separate page.
Loan Guarantees: MASC provides guarantees on loans made by qualifying lending institutions (credit unions, caisse populaires and chartered banks) on behalf of Manitoba farmers and rural businesses.
- Diversification Loan Guarantees assist farmers and agricultural enterprises in diversifying their operations and/or adding value to their agricultural commodities.
- The Manitoba Livestock Associations Loan Guarantee program provides members of livestock associations with the benefit of lower costs associated with financing and higher volume transactions of feeders and bred cattle.
- Operating Credit Guarantees for Agriculture assist farm operators and agricultural enterprises with accessing operating lines of credit from qualified lending institutions.
- Rural Entrepreneur Assistance (REA) assists full-time, small and home-based businesses in rural Manitoba with business loans for start-up, expansion, and purchase of existing businesses.
- Operating Credit Guarantees for Rural Small Businesses assists with access to lines of credit for small businesses in rural Manitoba.
