NEWS RELEASE, April, 2003

MANITOBA YIELD ROBBERS CAUGHT ON MMPP.COM

The Manitoba Management Plus Program (MMPP) web site has recently been revised and updated to better help farmers with benchmarking their farm operations. The site (www.mmpp.com) has been updated with both 2002 data and new content – including Manitoba yield robber information.

The MMPP on-line query tools now include 2002 yield, pesticide, and fertilizer information. Seeding date yield response information has also been updated and average seeding date maps are now available for viewing. Also new is that the latest “criminal records” for Manitoba yield robbers are now available on-line – Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation’s “Cause of Loss” details by region are now available as maps for viewing. The curious can now see where yield robbers have had their greatest impact – for example where has soil crusting been the major cause of reseeding problems in Manitoba or whether there is a “hail belt” in Manitoba.

The goal of the MMPP web site is to improve crop related decision making for Manitoba farmers through on-line education and research. To meet this goal the MMPP web site provides farmers, researchers and agribusiness with ready access to unbiased and current benchmark information and analysis. Fact sheets, maps, query tools and benchmark information have been pulled from the Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation (MCIC) database and made available in user friendly format throughout the site. By providing access to this information MCIC is enhancing customer relationships, reducing the risk of payouts and providing better client service.

The major contributors to this web site are MCIC (www.mcic-online.com) and Manitoba Agriculture and Food (www.gov.mb.ca/agriculture).
