Project Overview
The goal of the Manitoba Management Plus
Program (MMPP) is to improve crop related decision making through on-line
education and research. To meet this goal the MMPP website provides Manitoba
farmers, researchers and agribusiness, with unbiased benchmark information
and analysis. Fact sheets, maps, query tools and benchmark information
have been pulled from the Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation (MCIC) database
and made available in user friendly format throughout the site. By providing
access to this information MCIC is enhancing customer relationships, reducing
risk of payouts and providing better client service.
Project History
The MMPP began as a test project in 1993
to distribute useful MCIC database information to producers on a test basis
in the RM of Lorne in Manitoba. By 1995 it was providing hardcopy information
province wide and by 1996 it had it's own website www.mmpp.com.
Based on Manitoba's success other provinces such as Saskatchewan and Alberta
developed their own versions of the Management Plus Program soon after.
Since 1999 the MMPP website has switched servers, developed a "new look,"
and been expanded to include new on-line query tools.
Stakeholder and Partner Involvement
Until 1999 the majority of funding for
this initiative in Manitoba came from the Canada Manitoba Farm Business
Management Council. Starting with the fall of 1999 the Manitoba Rural Adaptation
Council (MRAC) www.mrac.ca has been the
primary external sponsor. They have supported the MMPP website to become
more enhanced and self-sustaining.
The other major contributors to this project
include the Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation (MCIC) www.mcic-online.com,
Manitoba Agriculture and Food www.gov.mb.ca/agriculture,
and the Manitoba Co-operator (for Yield Manitoba publication).
Confidentiality
MCIC individual client information will
always be kept confidential. In whatever format the data is distributed
the MMPP will never disclose individual producer information. To maintain
confidentiality only aggregate data from at least three individuals will
be published. In some instances this can limit the interpretability of
the data but this is a small price to pay to maintain an on-going credible
information supply.
